Reaching Siyakobvu…

We turn off the tarmac road at a T-junction where we have a warehouse serving our two main sites in the Zambezi Valley. If we turn left, we head to Binga; if we turn right (and we do), we head to the Save the Children office in Siyakobvu in Nyaminyami.

There are about 30 Save the Children staff who work from Siyakobvu – although some of them are employed seasonally to support the Vulnerable Group Feeding programme (VGF). The VGF programme is targeted food aid distributed September – March every year there is a need. We meet the District Co-ordinator, David, who is from Zambia but has worked for Save the Children in Zimbabwe for over 14 years. We attend the morning staff meeting and it is agreed that I will go out with two members of staff – Miriam and Cuthbert – to Ngande, which is about 15km away. I am going to try and collect case studies and photographic information on the impact of our cholera response in Nyaminyami. Ngande is one of the poorest wards in the district.
