Homeward bound

Hello, it’s me for the last time – apologies for the silence over the last few days but we had no luck getting in contact with our global challenge team while they were hard at work in the communities in Leh. They are now back in Delhi and preparing for their flights home, exhausted but happy. I had a quick chat with our RB global challenge organiser Sandra, who filled me in on their last few days.

On Saturday the team who were trekking at a lower altitude hiked to join the other group and they all trekked down the mountain on the final day together. Once they’re back to connectivity they’ll be able to tell you about it themselves but I get the impression the trek was definitely a challenge! From there they proceeded to Leh for the best shower they’ve ever had… and a much appreciated real bed.

They didn’t stop there though, on Sunday they split into 3 groups and went to 3 of the schools in the Leh area who are benefiting from the money raised by the trekkers. Much of the development work was done prior to their arrival so the teams helped to finish up and turn the schools into a postive environment by painting walls, creating colourful animal figures etc – I haven’t yet heard if any of them are considering a career change in the creative arts… You can find out more about how Save the Children are helping in India here.

They also had the opportunity to meet the kids and the communities they were working in which by all accounts was a wonderful experience. The kids sang and danced for their visitors and apparently the RB crew joined in – I wonder who entertained who the most??

What an experience. I’d personally like to congratulate all who participated from RB and Save the Children. Stay tuned because they should be able to update you themselves in the next few days. You can also keep track of further Save the Children / RB activities and more at our Facebook page.
