Haiti: Aid IS getting through

Save the Children is reaching victims of the earthquake, despite the chaos in Port-au-Prince. We’re one of the first NGOs on the scene.

We’ve distributed some supplies, such as soaps and blankets, that we were able to procure locally, and we have a truck on route at the moment from the Dominican Republic with hygiene kits, food and water.  We’ve also delivered medicines and supplies to two hospitals through our local partner yesterday and today.

Distributing hygiene supplies like soap might not seem like life-saving aid, but giving people immediate access to clean and safe sanitation and hygiene services is vital in a response such as this. The risk of disease outbreak due to contaminated water and improper hygiene is increasing all the time.

Please donate if you can to the Save the Children or DEC appeals. Every donation matters a great deal. Just £15 can buy a hygiene kit with essentials such as soap, detergent, toothpaste, toothbrushes – potentially life-saving aid for a family whose life has been devastated. Thank you.
