Meet the Supporter Care team!

In between sharing stories from our wonderful supporters, over the next few weeks I’m going to introduce some of the people you you might speak to when you contact Save the Children, as well as the people who work ‘behind the scenes’ doing things like writing our supporter magazine, processing donations or working in our Legacies team.

The first person I’d like to introduce is Heather from our Supporter Care team.

How long have you worked at Save the Children?

“I joined in October, so for around nine months.”

What did you do before you worked here?

“I previously worked at Macmillan Cancer Support in Birmingham – so starting this job included a move down to the big smoke!”

Describe an average day at work.

“It’s very difficult to describe an ‘average’ day at Save the Children as every day is very different and we never know what to expect in our job!

“I take incoming phone calls from our supporters, answering their general enquiries about our work, donations, complaints or anything that may be related to us in the news.  We’re lucky as we get to speak to some really wonderful supporters who are either giving their time or money to help Save the Children.

“I always really enjoy hearing about the great fundraising ideas and events that our supporters organise to raise money for us too.  We also receive a lot of emails and it’s our job to respond to these quickly and efficiently.

“We’ve recently started looking after Save the Children’s Facebook page which is definitely a learning curve too!”

What’s the best part about working at Save the Children?

“The best part about working at Save the Children, is working for Save the Children! I am absolutely passionate about what this charity achieves and everything it stands for.

“It’s a really positive, friendly place to work and everyone is committed to the cause. Despite the huge need that still prevails, it’s fantastic to see the positive difference being made to children’s lives.”

What’s the best supporter story you’ve heard since being here?

“A massive inspiration for me was Luke Foulkes, aged seven, who recently gave up all tasty treats for lent to raise money for Save the Children.

“He was inspired to help after seeing one of our TV adverts. His dedication is absolutely incredible – I don’t know if I could go without these treats for so long, so for him to have been so focused and achieved his goal to help other children, at such a young age, is an incredible achievement.”

Have you done any fundraising yourself?

“Yes! Just this weekend I completed the Great London Swim to raise money for Save the Children.

“I swam a mile in Royal Victoria Docks and managed to complete it in just under 40 minutes, which I was quite pleased with considering it was so choppy and I managed to swallow so much water on the way!

“I’ve raised just under £300 in sponsorship so far for the East Africa Appeal.”

Finally, do you have a message for our supporters?

“When you contact us, it’s always so inspiring to hear the reasons why you support our work – so please do tell us!

“All our supporters should feel very proud of everything they’ve achieved for vulnerable children, without your support none of it would be possible.”
