UK: giving back to my community

When I heard that my employer, Johnson & Johnson, supports Save the Children’s ‘Eat Sleep Learn Play!’ programme, I looked into upcoming activities in my local Cardiff area.

I was shocked to discover that so many children are living below the poverty line and decided to become a volunteer.

Once my application and CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check were complete, I was placed with two other Johnson & Johnson colleagues in the home of a Cardiff family, where we spent the day carrying out a DIY SOS-style home makeover to improve their living environment.

A fantastic experience

It was a really long day but fuelled with a lot of caffeine, we managed to completely redecorate the family’s living room and were able to finish off the look with cushions, picture frames and toy boxes that Save the Children had supplied.

I’m really glad that my company supported me to help Save the Children. It was a fantastic experience and it was lovely to give something back to the community.

I would certainly encourage others to get actively involved.
