Where is it hardest to be a girl? Our interactive map

A girl under 15 is married every seven seconds; others are forced to live a life of modern-day slavery.

Around the world, girls are at risk of trafficking, forced labour and sexual violence – especially if a war, earthquake or flood tears their homes apart.

Our latest report throws new light on the many discriminations faced by girls in 144 countries around the world.

Explore the clickable map to compare and contrast the quality of girls’ lives in different countries.

Or investigate more deeply by selecting an issue to focus on – from female representation in parliament, to teen pregnancy, to maternal death.

I just saw your latest report and the interesting table on p.24&25 showing the “Girls’ Opportunity Index” and was wondering, whether the data on which this table is based is also being published somewhere on your website, or, could be obtained otherwise. I would like to make a comparison of this index with some other social indicators (for example on gender inequality) that we use at RobecoSAM for our country sustainability assessment with regard to the social dimension and check whether this indicator could add some value in this respect.
    Looking forward to your response.

    Many thanks and best regards,
