Leave a legacy: Write a child’s smile into your will

“Even a small gift in your will has the potential to save lives!”

Margo, who has been supporting Save the Children since the 1980s, has made the generous decision to pledge a gift to us in her will. We sat down with her to hear why she thinks it’s important to help children in this special way.

She says, “I’ve always been so impressed with the work Save the Children does to help children. Of course, I totally trust them to spend my money where the need is greatest. Leaving a gift in my will was just one very simple but effective way of continuing my involvement.”

A personal gift

“I used to be a teacher so I’m especially interested in helping children to access education. I was recently lucky enough to visit one of the charity’s education projects at Nameyana Primary School in Kenya.”

Helping local schools

“When we arrived, lessons were already underway – in the shade of a huge tree! Since Save the Children’s intervention, the school has become really popular and they couldn’t fit all the children inside at once.

What I was also very pleased to see was Save the Children’s long-term commitment to these children. There were plans to extend the school and others in the region, and to help the children into secondary education, too.

Seeing this vital work first-hand makes me very proud that I’ve left a gift to Save the Children in my will.”

Helping children for years to come

“In Kenya, I saw just how much the money will be needed and to know it will help to nurture the enthusiasm, curiosity and determination of school children like the ones I met – well that’s such a special feeling!

Knowing that the work of Save the Children will continue well beyond my lifetime is just what a legacy is all about.”
